Funding for Food Stamp Outreach

CAFB's Food Stamp Outreach and Access Program is funded in part through a partnership with the California Network for Healthy, Active Families (Network), CA Department of Social Services and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services.

Funding for this program is administered by the Network as a cost reimbursement.  For every $1000 in non-federal money spent and billed by a partner organization on allowable food stamp outreach activities, $333 is reimbursed to the partnering organization.  This reimbursed amount is called "federal share."  To be eligible for reimbursement, partnering organizations must submit an approved budget and scope of work, be able to certify that no funds re-generated from a federal source or are used to match other federal funds, and assure that activities funded through this program do not supplant existing efforts or funding.

Funding Your Organization’s Food Stamp Outreach & Access Efforts
There is currently no limit as to how much California’s non-profit organizations could be drawing down in federally reimbursed outreach dollars.  CAFB would like to see more non-profit organizations providing this service to low-income people in their communities and receiving reimbursed funding for this work.  Food Stamp Outreach activities that are funded by this program include: distribution of outreach materials, pre-screening of eligible households, assistance in completing the application and application process, assisting in the retention of food stamp benefits, coordination of food stamp outreach clinics and training other non-profit organization about the Food Stamp Program.

Apply for Match Funding: Applications for the next funding cycle, begining October 2008, will be due in February 2008. To receive an application packet, please submit a pre-application form. For more information, contact us today.
